General Superintendent, Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, on Monday, predicted brighter future for the country. According to him, the current hardship the nation is presently facing is a process, adding that there would be light at the end of the tunnel. Pastor Kumuyi who was fielding questions from newsmen on his arrival at Warri for a one-night crusade at the Warri township stadium today for Special Bible Study, with the Theme “Following a Life Transforming Example,” said Nigeria was a great nation and that its citizens should always expect good and prosperous economy. On militancy in the Nigeria Delta, the church overseer urged Nigerians to pray fervently for peace to reign, and pleaded with the militants to embrace peace and dialogue. On restructuring of Nigeria, Pastor Kumuyi noted that the issue should not bother anybody as it was not meant to break up the country. “We should not worry ourselves too much on the issue. Falana Commends Buhari’s Medical Trip Abroad, Shades Fayose

Rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr. Femi Falana has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s medical trip to the United Kingdom as normal. Falana said the president needs to be commended for being honest and doing the right thing before going. He told Daily Sun that Buhari is entitled to a month annual leave as a president “and he has taken the appropriate action by asking for leave and handing over to the vice president as required by law. “Unlike a governor, who abandoned his duty post in solidarity with striking workers, without handover to his deputy. If I were the president, I would take a month, because he is entitled to one month leave in a year,” he said. To buttress his point, Falana added: “It is normal. Even General (Ibrahim) Babangida, as a young man and military president went away for over a month. It is not unusual because he is not a stone. You can appreciate President Buhari for being honest about it. “Anybody can fall sick but, the most important thing for somebody like him to do is hand over to his deputy so that the nation or state will not suffer, which he has done. That’s all.” Buhari had, on Monday, travelled to United Kingdom to see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialists in London. His Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina had insisted said the president is not ill to the level at which the disease is being described and that he had been treated locally and has only gone abroad for checks and, also, to rest for 10 days out of the one month annual leave he is entitled. Immediate past national president of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and Vice President Commonwealth Medical Association, Osahon Enabulele, had reportedly described it as “a national shame” and said it was an ailment that could be treated in Nigeria.

Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja The Presidency on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari did not violate any rule in the treatment of his ear infection because he was treated by Nigerian medical experts in the country. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, stated this in an interview with our correspondent. He was reacting to reports making the rounds that by traveling to London, Buhari violated the Federal Government’s rule that says that government officials will not be paid for foreign medical treatment, unless the case cannot be treated in Nigeria. Adesina referred our correspondent to the statement he issued on Sunday about the President’s 10-day vacation. He explained that Buhari did not go to London for treatment but to rest. He said the President had been treated in Nigeria and would only seize the opportunity of his trip to carry out further evaluation. Adesina said, “You can check the statement we issued on Sunday again. The President did not go to London for treatment. “We made it clear in that statement that he had been treated in Nigeria here. “The medical experts here only told him that since he will be in London, he can seize that opportunity for evaluation. “The President has not broken any rule.” The statement issued on Sunday read,  “President Buhari will take 10 days off and travel to London from Monday June 6th, to rest. “During the holiday, the President will see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist for a persistent ear infection. “The President was examined by his Personal Physician and an E.N.T Specialist in Abuja and was treated. “Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation purely as a precaution.

South-South Governors Want Corruption Charges Dropped To Stop Pipeline Attacks

Governors of the South-South region who met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House today called for a majority of the corruption cases in the region to be dropped by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), SaharaReporters has learned. The meeting was attended by Governors of Edo, Ondo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia, as well as the Deputy Governor of Cross River. Our source, who was at the meeting, said that only the Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole and the deputy Governor of Cross River opposed the others, who singled out the federal government’s anti-corruption initiative as the reason why Niger Delta Avengers are blowing up pipelines in the region. Speaking one after the other, the governors reportedly asked the Federal government to drop charges against former militants accused of corruption. They also want the EFCC to stop investigating the campaign fund scam which has so far revealed how former President Goodluck Jonathan shared funds meant that were meant for combating Boko Haram among his People’s Democratic Party functionaries. Our correspondents also learned that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, was curiously on the side of the South-South governors who want corruption charges and all forms of corruption investigations against the Niger Delta politicians discontinued. The Governor of Delta, Patrick Okota, reportedly obtained a two-week ceasefire from the Niger Delta Avengers before arriving at the meeting but did not disclose it because he was uncomfortable that the Vice President wasn’t disposed to the idea. SaharaReporters learnt that through his Deputy, Mr. Okowa had extensive meetings with the Niger Delta Avengers, pointing out that it was evident that he and other South South governors knew who the militants were as he spoke at the meeting. The source further stated that if the terms pushed by the South South Governors are fully adopted by the Buhari regime, his anti-corruption fight will die prematurely in all of the South South states. He said that from the tone of the meeting, it was clear that the Niger Delta Avengers and their activities are being funded by politicians in the region with the objective of halting Buhari’s anti-corruption war. A press statement issued at the end of the meeting by the Vice-President’s office indicated that the federal government was represented at the meeting by the Minister of Defense, Rtd.
