11 Good Reasons Why Students Fail JAMB -

The Joint Administration and matriculation board has remain a major exams body conducting Universities matriculation examinations (UTME) in all the states of the federal republic of Nigeria. Since her inception, it has been many people’s Achilles hill as they can’t dance to the tune of the exams.

To worsen the whole case, post-UTME that gave students the second chance of getting admission was scrapped out by President Muhammedu Buhari led administration and JAMB was made the only exams body which conducts examinations for those going to the higher institutions.

In order to remain on the safe side, there are certain things which every student could do to emerge successfully in the exams. I bet you, if any candidates can avoid common mistakes attributed to jamb, then success could be theirs.

Reasons Why Students Fail JAMB

Here are 11 good reasons why students fail Jamb

1. Failure to follow the syllables

Jamb syllables have been a veritable tool in the hand of students seeking admission into higher institution. Research has shown that 90 percent of those that excel in Jamb are those who study the syllables comprehensively.

We strongly recommend all candidates to have a take a look at the syllabus for every subject they registered. Pay attention to the subjects you’re anticipated to master and let it guide your studies. This way, you’ll spend no time reading things which are irrelevant to the examination.

Many students have recorded successesin their UME exams because of the adamant study of the syllable.

2. Laisez-faire attitude towards Brochure:

The syllables has been a helpful tool, but many students have dispute the facts that the brochure is another veritable tool for which students can use to scale through the hurdles of jamb. Studnets preparing for UME have neglected the study of the brochure. Some register to study a course blindly which may not be offered by their choice university.

MUST READ: Top 13 Things to Do Before Preparing for JAMB – 2017

Candidates are advised to study the brochure carefully before filling the jamb online registration slip. This will also be a guide on a way to fill the Jamb utility form, help you in making perfect preference of the courses you are intellectually suited.

3. Poor study habits

The word student only comes from the word study. You may follow the brochure and strictly adhere to the registration processes of Jamb, but the truth remains that academic excellent solely depend on veheminent study of your texts books and other recommended books in the syllables.

The ultimate thing to do while preparing for UME exams is to study. A good number of student give the excuse of being so busy, hitherto they can’t study. No matter the tight schedule of a candidate, it is adviceable for a candidate to create time for effective studies. It will also be advantageous for a candidiate to enroll in extra-moral classes.

4. Failure to register JAMB in time

Time waits for no man- is a popular adage. Tick says the clock tick tick is another adage. The fact that Jamb offers enough time for its registration is not a ground for candidates to register late for the exams. Procrastinating to register on time has caused a whole lot of failure in JAMB UME examinations.

Here is how late registration affects candites:

Candidates are given unconducive/unequipped centers.

Some are slated for rural areas for the exams and guess what!

These can cause candidtes to fail.

5. Lack of Speed:

Candidates who apply speed speed in the exams do emerge successfully. JAMB UME examination is not an exams for babies, but for matured minds whob are ready to face the other world of the university. The examiners give a very limited time of about 40 minuites. However, this time waits for no ,man as it ticks every seconds.

Don’t forget this:

You can’t pause the time to do one thing or the order, like having a convenient or answering to the attendance. The time goes very fast and stops automatically for everyone. Whether you came to the exams venue late.

Did you know that intelligent students still fail Jamb?

Yes! Not because they are not intelligent, but because they do not apply speed.

6. Failure to arrive at the exams venue early

Tears droped from her eyes, I could remember vividly she was a girl, tall and she spoke intelligently. All her tears was in vain, all her pleas was wasted as the invigilator was so tenacious in his decision. Futher findings revealed that she was the best in her secondary school who made history by recording 9A’s in the west African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE ), but on that faithful day she was late to her UME exams. That was how she failed JAMB.

It is so obvious that many candidates are seen doing some print out on their exams day and this warrant their lateness to exams. It is adviseable for candidates to do all necessary things prior to the day of their exams. If your exams center is in a long distance or in another state, try to be there atleast a day before and get to know your center.

7. Computer illiteracy

Yes we are in a computer a computer age where computer and other computer related devices are easily accessd, yet computer illiteracy still rocks among young school leavers. Since 2014, Jamb had progressed from the rostrum of PPT to the rostrum of CBT which made way for the utilization of computers for the exams.

It is appaling that many candidates still cannot operate this computers during exams and thereby failure comes in. It is adviceable for can didates to undergo Computer Base Training before the day of their exams.

8. Incomplete materials

Yes, this has possed a problem to many candidates. The exams day is like an injury period which a simple mistake can hurt for life. Before departing for the exams hall check out for your materials such as Jamb print out, Passports etc. Read the necessary instructions and adhere to it. Where you are to bring a colour print-out please don’t bring a black and white print out.

9. Deafness to attendance

You must be all ears while writing your exams. Are you writing with your ears? Of course not, so candidates have to pay adequate attention to attendance while writing the exams. Your attendance indicates your present in the exams and failure to answer to it means that you did not write the exams.

10. Unconducive/unequipped exams center

One major thing that poses a threat to JAMB in Nigeria is their poor and unequipped exams environment. These have pose a psychological effect on many students. The progression from PPT (Paper and pencil test) to CBT (Computer Base Test) has not change Jamb’s poor Examination Environment.

11. Misinformation

Many students are misinform about Jamb exams. They are given fake information which has no relationship to the afore mentioned exams. It is a known facts that are many myths and conceptions surrounding the exams and the exams body. All this should me taken with a pinch of salt as many of them are rumors and not facts.

Top Things to Do Before Studying Medicine and Surgery

It is really good that you are dreaming to study one of the most professional courses – Medicine and surgery.Research has proven that medicine and surgery is the most sort after courses in universities. Many students actually consider this course to be a solution to their problems. It is good, but you have to understand certain things before going to study the course.

These are the basic things:

1. Career opportunities

Career opportunities that you will find in the course is interesting, you might choose to go into primary health care and practice your work generally or you can choose to specialize in any field below;

Dermatology
Emergency medicine,
General medicine,
Geriatric medicine
Gynecology
Medical research and education
Oncology
Neurology
Obstetrics
Pediatrics
Psychiatry
Pathology
Public health
Radiology
Surgery

2. Admission requirements for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB.BS)

The admission requirements for studying medicine differ according to different countries. In Nigeria, candidates are admitted to MB.BS degree programme either through Jamb examination, using jamb criteria for a six years programme, or through direct entry for a given year programmeI.e for candidates with GCE/HSC.

Candidate applying with jamb need the following subject combination in UTME examination:

English language, Chemistry, physics and Mathematics

3. Severe passion for the course:

Yes this is another good thing to know before going for the course Medicine and surgery. Ask yourself do I really have passion for the course, or I’m I just going into it because of what the society considers it to be?

If you are going into the course with the mindset of making lots of money, that means if I offer you $100 billion to quit medicine forever, you will graciously accept my offer.

Before making wrong decisions, know the real reason why you are applying for the course. Those that are passionate about the course are not really sway by what happens around them.

4. Medicine and surgery is hardcore:

Most people who go into medical school are behind maturity.

Don’t get it twisted:

Before you enter the medical school, you have to understand that most medical students are nerd, hardcore and smart-alecks who spend time on their academic when they should be having a whole lot of fun in the social aspect of a school life.

Are you ready to develop that hardcore spirit?

If no please don’t go into it. Medicine and surgery is hardcore and only the hardcore survive the course. Understand that you will see all part of the human body whether it is private or public part.

So if are the type that is scared of blood or afraid of seeing the pennis, then medicine is not for you. Medicine is one course that requires hardcoreness in the part of student. Understand the facts that you will see many things.

5. Have a good study Habit:

Studies have shown that a medical student studies beyond time as compare to other students. As a medical student, you will certainly come across certain books that are bulky and boring to study.

Don’t conclude yet, here is the key:

Developing a new study habit or method will help you. The problem of a new study habit has been a challenge to many first year students as they continue to study the course the way they studied in high school. Cramming as a way of studying medicine will lead you to pitfall, ofcourse you can’t cram more than fifteen text books of about one to two inches. In medical school, there are too much materials to study and the best way to deal with them is not cramming.

You will feel like writing people off:

You will definitely get piss off by some of things you will notice in people. It is tempting but try not to piss people off. As a medical student you will want to feel so special and then egoism sets in. Don’t write anyone off. Many people will definitely look up to you to solve their problems (health or non-health), don’t see anyone as less important. Despite your tight schedule, offer a helping hand. Learn good communication skill and be polite with everyone. Don’t forget whoever you meet on your way up you will surely meet on your way down.

6. Medicine surgery requires money:

OlusengunObasenjo, former Nigeria president once said: education is not for the poor and to some extent I agree with him. Medicine and surgery is not for the poor, it is one of those courses with high amount of tuition fees. Yes! This is obtainable in Nigeria. As a med student, know that you will need money to purchase good texts books which are very costly in prize.

You will ask: what if I don’t have money but I’m zealous for the course?

Goodnews:

If you are poor financially, try not to be poor mentally. There are thousands of scholarships for med students available online and offline. You can cease this opportunity and study your dream course.

7. You may careless about your health:

Every medical student is always busy to get the assignment done, complete the term paper and read hard for test/exams. Whatever the case is, try as much as possible to Eat healthy, Exercise and Sleep. Denying yourself of these three things will posed a problem to your health and it will be detrimental to your academics. When you are in medical school, create time for yourself. Ofcourse you know you cannot cheat nature.

Here is the secret:

The secret of solving this problem is creating a personal time-table. Your time table will tell you when to study and when to rest.

8. The God factor, the healer:

God is the ultimate and he is the only healer. You have to acknowledge the fact that you as a medical doctor, you are only the healer and it is God that heals only. Doctors have ascertained the facts that some of the healing done are mysterious, that is to say that there is certain another hand beghind the healing of many.

Adeniyi said the perpetrator, a relation of the victim by marriage, had been pleading with the family that the matter should be settled out of court.

She said, “Today, the family members came to appeal that the matter be settled out of court. DSVRT has been informed about the case and the state would ensure diligent prosecution.

“We hope the suspect recovers quickly to stand trial in the court for the offence he was alleged to have committed and we urge the public to desist from such act.”

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has urged the Lagos State Task Force Unit to track down offenders of domestic violence and rape cases to serve as deterrent to others.

Nigerian Man Jailed In The UK After Lady Tapes Him Sexually Assaulting Her

year old Peter Odukoya, a Computer science undergraduate in the UK, has been convicted by a UK court after it heard an audio of a 20 year old woman he sexually assaulted. In the audio which was played in the court by the prosecution, the woman was heard pleading with him as he assaulted her "I don't want this. I'm very drunk".

Odukoya had on the day he attacked the lady, met her at a night out with some of his friends. He offered to give her a lift which she accepted. Odukoya then dropped off his other friends at their homes before heading back to his flat with his victim who was already drunk.
According to express.co.uk, his victim's "instincts kicked in" in the car and she turned on her phone's recording app which recorded her saying "Please, I have a boyfriend. I don't want this. I'm very drunk.”

She managed to push him off and lock herself in his bathroom before ringing a friend to pick her up. The girl later gave the disturbing recordings to police.
Lead Prosecutor, Harry Baker, told the court "She was left humiliated. It affected her grades. She says it completely took her dignity away."

Odukoya's counsel, Andrew Davies told the court that he had been suspended from his computer sciences course after the sex assault. He said his client had brought "shame" to his family in Nigeria, who had saved up to send him to study in the UK. His father has completely disowned him and cut him off from his family, which will affect him for the rest of his life."

Recorder of Cardiff, Judge Eleri Rees QC, told Odukoya: "This girl sat on your settee and without warning you pulled down her trousers and her knickers. She pleaded with you to stop. She was extremely distressed. You have showed no remorse. You said nothing of a sexual nature occurred which was undermined by the recordings. You took advantage of a young woman who was very vulnerable."

Odukoya, a computer science student, of Treforest, Pontypridd, was jailed for year after being found guilty of sexual assault. He will remain on the sex offenders register for 10 years and given a restraining order against his victim for five years.

ASUU Strike Continues As FG Frustrates Senate - ASUU Negotiations

The intervention by the Senate President Bukola Saraki into the one-week warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) failed to yield any positive result, as the absence of the Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun marred the resolution of the crisis.

At a marathon meeting with the national leadership of the Union on Wehe Ministry of Education as well as Labour and Productivity, no agreement was reached, as the Union vowed to continue with the strike.

The meeting which lasted for about three hours was presided over by Saraki.

The one-week strike which commenced on Wednesday enters its second day today, even as ASUU President Biodun Ogunyemi told newsmen that the industrial action would continue.

Areas of disagreement between the Union and government include: payment of fraction of staff entitlement and the denial of staff entitlement in respect of earned academic allowance amounting to about N128 billion, funding of universities for revitalization and the refusal to register the the Nigerian Universities Pension Management Company by the National Compensation Commission.

Others include the introduction of the TSA, decrease in budgetary allocation to education and the refusal by government to renegotiate the 2009 agreement which was due for renegotiation since 2012.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Chairman Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND, Barau Jibrin, disclosed that a sub-committee has been set up to resolve the issues.

He said another meeting would hold today which would include the Finance Minister and Director General of the Budget Office, Ben Akabueze.

Said Jibrin: “We have had a fruitful deliberation. And a way forward has been found by creating a sub-committee of this committee to sit and find out certain things in the Ministry of Finance which will bring us close to the resolution of this problem. We will start sitting by tomorrow (today) including the Ministry of Finance who has not been able to attend this meeting but we are sure she will be here tomorrow and the Director General of the Budget Office.

“We have created a template about how to resolve this problem. And you know ASUU is a democratic body, they have to consult. So, it’s ongoing, it’s a work in progress. And a very important headway has been created. A good template has been created. And we see light at the end of the tunnel”.

On their part, Minister of State for Education, Anthony Anwuka and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Clement Ilo, commended the Senate leadership for its intervention and expressed optimism that they issues would be resolved very soon.

The Senate Tuesday mandated Saraki to liaise with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Executive arm of government over the warning strike by the Union.

Buhari And Oshiomhole Sitting In A Classroom

There is usually that one serious student, in an exam hall, who will not cease to always create a panic into you no matter how you've read enough few minutes to the start..

Buhari And Oshiomhole Sitting In A Classroom:
